NO FUSS Huge Weekend with lots going on - 10 under the Ben, Endurance Downhill, Enduro! Enduro!

Many mountain bikers will have heard of 10 Under the Ben; the race that launched No Fuss Events and the first of ten-hour endurance events.

Remember that does not mean that every participant has to ride for a full ten hours. The expectation is that the majority of riders will be in teams and ride in a relay that is only one rider on the course at any time.

Mountain Bike World Cup

If you happen to be in the area during this weekend then you're in luck. We think that this is one of the best sporting events in Scotland, and it takes place right here at Nevis Range in the heart of the highlands. What is the Mountain Bike World Cup?
The event is part of the Mountain Bike World Cup series and it's been held at Nevis Range since 2002. The Fort William round has won numerous awards over the years for being one of the best events on the entire World Cup tour, thanks to the amazing Scottish crowd and the extremely hard work by the organisers and the volunteers.

4X competition - Saturday
The 4X competition sees riders race down a wide track, 4 at a time, with the first 2 in each race going through to the next round. The course is 200m long and ends in the carpark. It's great to watch from the carpark, and you can easily climb up the spectator track to see more of the action. There's practice for this event from Thursday and the final race kicks of at 6.30pm on Saturday. Event Schedule.

Downhill (DH) competition - Sunday
On Sunday, the main event is the downhill which takes place on our 'orange extreme' downhill track which comes down the mountain under the gondola. Spectators and riders with their bikes access the track by gondola. The course is 2.82k long and the champions ride it in less than 5 minutes! You can take the gondola to the top of the track and walk down the side of the track to see the different sections of the track. We think the best place to be for the last few riders is the finish area in the carpark where there's a giant screen (the largest mobile screen in the world!!) which shows the riders on the upper sections of the course. Practice takes place on Friday and Saturday, and the finals begin on Sunday from 12.30pm.

Food & drink
There's lots of variety for food and drink on site, and both the Pinemarten cafe bar at the base station and the Snowgoose restaurant & bar at the top of the gondola are open - you get a great view from the balcony of the Snowgoose restaurant as the downhill riders set off.

Tickets
Tickets can be bought online in advance and also at the event. You need an event ticket for the Saturday and Sunday - there's no charge to watch the practice on the Thursday and Friday, although you may have to park TBC and walk onto site as it will be getting busy.

Cash
There's no cashline machine on site, but you can get 'cash back', for a small fee, at the Nevis Range Ticket Office.

Getting on site & parking
During the World Cup, a park and ride system operates. The buses are free and run on Satuday and Sunday. There is plenty of car parking and we will shortly post the parkling arrangements. Please note that parking at the Rural Complex will be chargeable on TBC 8,9,&10 June.

Enjoy the scenery...wildlife... and plants on Aonach Mor? Well this is one for you!

Join us for a guided mountain walk from 1 - 3pm to find out more about the plants and wildlife here at Nevis Range. No experience needed just bring along yourself and your walking boots. Waterproof clothing may be required depending on the weather.

The guided walk costs £5 per person and can be payable at the main Nevis Range ticket office. Everyone joining the walk must be in possession of a gondola ticket. Once you have enjoyed the journey on the gondola all walkers must meet at the gondola top station.Minimum and maximum numbers are 10-20 and under 16's must be accompanied by an adult.

A Forestry Commission event in Leanachan forest.

Leanachan is a big and, in places, a fairly featureless forest. But look a little closer and it has some special features. Join this relatively easy 25km bike ride around Leanachan looking at it's history, nature and industry.

Participants should have their own bike, preferably a mountain bike, and the ability to ride the distance at a gentle pace.

Meeting point - the North Face Carpark - please note this is NOT at Nevis Range, but about a 15 min (downhill) cycle from Nevis Range.

Saracen British Downhill Series race

Round 2 of the Saracen British Downhill Series - BDS will take place at the downhill racers Mecca that is Nevis Range's Aonach Mor.

Over 350 of the Worlds top elite racers will race against the clock and each other. Practice takes place all day Saturday followed by Sundays race schedule of seeding and then race runs, running on the identical track as that used by the UCi World Cup that follows a month later.

This high status international race is a Cat 1 on the UCi calendar and is the perfect opportunity for the Worlds best to dial in the track, their race bikes and themselves before the World Cup. Those taking advantage of this ideal opportunity really are the cream of the crop; Greg Minnaar, Steve Peat, Gee Atherton, Danny Hart, Josh Bryceland, Andrew Neethling, Marcelo Gutierez, Marc Beaumont, Brendan Fairclough, Ben Reid, Sam Dale, Damien Spagnolo, Adam Brayton, Bernard Kerr, Matt Simmonds, Joe Smith, Fabien Cousinie, Markus Pekoll and many more..

Scottish 6 Day Trials

First day of the annual Scottish 6 Day Trials in Lochaber, centered in Fort William. Each day of the trial starts and finishes at the West End Car Park on the waterfront, providing a major attraction for the town.

The Scottish Six Days Trial is a motorcycle trial with a difference! It has the additional test of reliability over long distances, with riders completing up to 100 miles each day over a combination of rough moorland, rocky tracks and public roads. Each daily route is designed by the Clerk of the Course to challenge the ability, experience, strength and stamina of each rider. To ride 100 miles and negotiate 30 sections each day for six consecutive days requires strength, expertise and exceptional reliability from both rider and machine.

Taking place in the Witch's Trails in Leanachan forest, the series is all about encouraging youngsters to get involved in downhill mountain biking. The categories include under 10s, under 12s, under 14s and under 16s.

Celebrate Easter Sunday at NEVIS RANGE ... with our lunchtime activitites for children.

We've got hard boiled eggs for you to colour and then roll down the slopes of Aonach Mor, colouring, badge making, face painting and 2 chocolate egg hunts at 11am and 2pm.

Activities will take place in the Snowgoose restaurant at the top of the gondola, between approximately 11am and 2pm.

All you need to do is buy your gondola ticket and come on up the mountain. Gondola tickets are priced at £11.50 per adult and £6.75 per child (5-17yrs). Under 5's are free! Family tickets are also available and if you have a Season Ticket, then the gondola will cost you nothing.

THANKS to all those who sent in their apologies. Given the lack of numbers, we've cancelled this meeting. HOWEVER, we'd love you to email marketing@nevisrange.co.uk with any questions / comments and we'll issue a Q&A on the website :)

We're planning to hold an informal meeting for Nevis Range Snowsports Season Ticket holders. It's not an exclusive meeting, and we welcome anyone who skis and boards on a regular basis at Nevis Range, including holders of the ski-scotland All Area passes.

In terms of timing, we expect this to take place in the Pinemarten cafe bar, at the base station, at the end of skiing/boardingAT 6pm on on Saturday 23 March ... after the Back Corrie workshop, the Nevis Highlander Freestyle competition and the SkiMo race (both of which you can still enter ...).

We do already get lots of feedback from you, but we're keen to hear more ... as well as to listen to your comments and suggestions. We'd like to be able to answer your questions as fully as we can, so if you do have specific questions, then please forward them to Heather at enquiries@nevisrange.co.uk. If there's enough similar questions, we'll try and prepare a short presentation ...

The Race

Total ascent: 763m
Total descent: 763m
Distance: 6.64km
In the event that there is insufficient snowcover at the bottom of the Quad Chair, competitors will continue up the line of the race until indicated by the marshall where the transition to ski’s will take place.
The competitor with the fastest time for completing the route will be declared the winner.

Key Info

Registration will take place in the Pinemarten cafe.
Once competitors have registered, they should make their way to the start of the race (outside the Snowgoose Restaurant & bar) for the briefing at 1620.
Transceivers will be checked before the race starts (please ensure that they are transmitting).
It takes approx 15 mins on the gondola to reach the Snowgoose Restaurant.
Competitors will be able to leave their kitbag/rucksack with any excess equipment at the start/end of the race. Do not leave any valuables in this bag. Skimo Scotland will not be held liable for any loss or damage of equipment left by competitors. Skimo Scotland will provide labels at time of registration for competitors to attachment to bag for ease of identification.

Facilities

Nevis Range have the Pinemarten cafe bar at the base of Aonach Mor and the Snowgoose Restaurant & bar located at the gondola top station. For more information about these click here.

There are showers available at the base of Aonach Mor for a small fee.

Skimo Scotland will provide a basic 2 course meal for competitors at the end of the race in the Pinemartin cafe bar. Competitors can purchase their own drinks and cakes direct.

Spectators

Spectators will be able to watch both the start and finish of the race from the Snowgoose Restaurant & Bar depending on weather conditions.

Evening entertainment

Rich Bentley will play some acoustic tunes to sing and drink to. From Stereophonics to Springsteen, Paulo Nutini to Kings of Leon. Come along and round the race off with a party!

The LASS shred day in partnerhsip with Snowsport Scotland is designed for all ladies/girls over the age of 13, looking to learn basic freestyle skills and ride with like minded girls. This is not a competition. You do not need to have any previous freestyle skills, but we do ask that you are confident enough to link turns together fluently on red terrain, and be comfortable riding button tows and T bars. Cost per head is £10 with payment to be made in cash at registration on the day. If you are under 13 and would really like to be involved please email lauren@snowsportscotland.org.

In the event that there is insufficient snow cover at the bottom of the course, competitors will continue up the line of the race until indicated by the marshall where the transition to ski’s will take place.

The competitor with the fastest time for completing the route will be declared the winner.

Registration will take place in the Pinemarten cafe.

Once competitors have registered, they should make their way to the start of the race (outside the Snowgoose Restaurant & bar) for the briefing at 1520.

Transceivers will be checked before the race starts (please ensure that they are transmitting).

It takes approx 15 mins on the gondola to reach the Snowgoose Restaurant.

Competitors will be able to leave their kitbag/rucksack with any excess equipment at the start/end of the race. Do not leave any valuables in this bag. Skimo Scotland will not be held liable for any loss or damage of equipment left by competitors. Skimo Scotland will provide labels at time of registration for competitors to attachment to bag for ease of identification.

Facilities
Nevis Range have the Pinemarten cafe bar at the base of Aonach Mor and the Snowgoose Restaurant & bar located at the gondola top station. For more information about these click here.
There are showers available at the base of Aonach Mor for a small fee.

Unlike the other races, Skimo Scotland will not be providing a 2 course meal for competitors at the end of the race.

Spectators
Spectators will be able to watch both the start and finish of the race from the Snowgoose Restaurant & Bar depending on weather conditions.

Mountain Festival Opening night

Come along for a 4 course meal in the Pinemartin Cafe/Bar for £25 per person. Enjoy entertainment from local artists and watch screenings of some of this year's film competition entries.

PROGRAMME:
The descent will begin with Skiers and Snowboarders, who will pass on to runners and finally cyclists as you see a stream of light pass down the mountain. Definitely not to be missed, although of course this is weather dependant!

PLEASE NOTE CLOSING DATE for this race is 25 Jan 2013. Entry fee is £5 and uplift tickets should be purchased separately at the Ticket Office at a price of £15 per competitor. Competitors can use season tickets if they have been previously purchased.

The series comprises 4 qualifying ski race events held at the resorts listed below, followed by a FINAL at Cairngorm on Fri 15th March:-

7 Feb: THE NEVIS RANGE
21 Feb: THE LECHT 2090

This series is designed to accommodate all levels of skiers from first time racers through to competent ski racers. Each qualifying event is open to Primary & Secondary teams of 4 competitors. Teams may comprise male or female skiers. Each qualifying event will be limited to 20 teams of 4 skiers (80 competitors).
