If you prefer to keep your feet firmly on the ground Leanachan Forest, situated on the lower slopes of Aonach Mor, offers visitors over 25 miles of forest trails to explore on foot or bike, all with the stunning backdrop of Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis.
The 25 miles of alternative routes are there to be explored at any time of the year; all routes are graded from easy to expert so you can choose a route that matches your ability, from a short stroll to an extremely challenging walk.
Although not at the same vantage point that
the mountain trails offer, there are several viewpoints along
the forest trails that offer breathtaking views of the scenery,
Fort William and the surrounding area, the hills of Ardgour
and Moidart and the impressive overshadowing mass of Ben Nevis
.
The Nevis Range base station offers an ideal starting point for all of the above routes; there is a large free car park, toilets and a café.
