A huge thank you to the 50 or so mountain bikes that joined us today to take part in mass descents of our 2 new trails.
We ditched the celebs and invited some of our young local riders to open the trails … the CATS EYES green was opened by Ronnie Fulford (9) and the BLUE ADDER blue by Fergus Beradelli and Alisatair Poll and the ride out included families, adult and children of all skills from aged 3 years upwards from our local Lochaber area and lots of our friends from further afield. There was a huge range of bikes including cross country mountain bikes, a trailer bike, a tag along bike and a trike bike.
The new trails will be able to be ridden by a much wider range of biker han the existing difficuilt trails … such as small children (that’s a 3 year old been down the green now …) …. as well as some of the lazy staff here at Nevis Range …
The CATS EYES green-graded cross country descent has wide berms and rollover features. The features can be ridden as a flat track or utilising the big wide open berms, with a rolling trail through the trees beside a burn. Its at least 1.5m wide and is rideable by a trailer bike.
The BLUE ADDER blue-graded cross country descent is a mix of 80m of wide boardwalk, with chicken wire and gentle berms, followed by a series of flowing twists and turns, at least 1m wide. Both new tracks are accessed by a 2km climb up a forestry road and finish by the Pinemarten cafe bar.
And … thanks to our lovely Pinemarten girls for the coffee and cake, to Amy for icing the cake, and to our local photographer Ian Ferguson for taking such lovely pics.
Finally, here’s a video from the day … thanks John.
