Gondola uplift for bikes accessing the World Cup Downhill and the Giant Red XC trail re opens today. Riders are able to use the Nevis Range mountain gondola, the only one of its kind in the UK, to transport them and their bikes to the start of these trails on the slopes of Aonach Mor.
The Downhill track is continually being re developed and 2 new jump lines have been built parallel to the infamous motorway section. These new lines will give riders the choice of small, medium or large features and can be ridden independently of the Downhill, accessible by forest road or vehicle uplift.
The World Cup Downhill track is used each year for a round of the Mountain Bike World Cup series, taking place in Fort William, 6-7 June 2015.
The Scottish Power Mini Downhill race will also take place today on the Blue Adder XC trail. This competition gives aspiring young riders their first taste of downhill racing, and the mini series final is held alongside the Fort William Mountain Bike World Cup in June.
Photographer Steven McKenna will record the day, making images freely available to riders. DJ Symondo’s tunes and a BBQ will be mark the end of the day in the cafe bar.
