News from Lachlan …

Posted by Nevis Range on 2nd October, 2013

Lachlan was at the first Mountain Bike World Cup ever to be held at Nevis Rnnge … as a 5 year old, brought along by his mum Lisa who was working for the Catering team at Nevis Range.  This year, he took part in the downhill … and he still keeps in touch with us …

During the build up to Fort William World Cup I raced a UK Gravity Enduro and an Innerduro with wins in both of these races I was confident that my fitness was ready for the Downhill season to start. Before the World Cup I raced three BDS races and a couple of SDA rounds. This is when the season started to go downhill… At the first BDS a rounded bolt prevented me from changing to wet tyres and with no grip I had to ride slow and safe which meant I ended up 9th. BDS round two at Fort William went slightly better with a sixth place against an almost international National With many foreign juniors and elites turning up to get some practice in before World Cup Round 1. At Fort William World Cup everything was going great with a 9th in seeding (1st at the speed trap, 4th at first split and 9th by the bottom, even though I had a mechanical). This left me feeling strong for sunday but unfortunately bad luck got even worse with a puncture in the first rock garden. The following weekend I finished 22nd in Val Di Sole World Cup way off pace. The next round took place in Valnord where I finished 21st after yet more bike troubles. After Valnord it was time for Mont Sainte Anne, where yet another puncture ended my race. Hafjell was next and with the rain came a lot of fun! Maybe enjoying the jumps and rain a little too much probably cost me some time but I finished 12th which is closer too where I feel I should be. Leogang the weekend after was another weekend filled with problems and a jammed chain stopped me being able to pedal and caused me to roll down into a disappointing 33rd which left me finishing the World Cup season with 27th in the overall standings.  Hopefully you have had a more successful year then me!  Thanks again for everything. Lachlan Blair

ps  His mum STILL works for Nevis Range, running the Snack Shack on the Goose in the winter 🙂
