The Pinemarten Cafe Bar Turns 5!

Posted by Nevis Range on 11th April, 2016

Today marks 5 years since the opening of the new Pinemarten cafe bar at the gondola base station at Nevis Range.

In late 2010, the old Pinemarten cafe closed it’s doors as work began to transform and extend the Equipment Hire building. During the 2010/11 winter season, the base station cafe operated out of a Portakabin, while work was underway to create a much bigger and more modern space to enjoy a cup of coffee at the base station!

The new cafe was built as an extension to the main office building. What was the old meeting room soon became the new Pinemarten kitchen, and an old hallway leading to the meeting room became a walk in fridge! The old meeting room was replaced as part of the extension too, sitting adjacent to the new Pinemarten cafe with similar bright modern decor and a large window with stunning mountain views.

On 11 April 2011, the new Pinemarten cafe opened its doors to the public and served its first customers, it was a hugely successful first day and has continued to positively impact the business ever since.

The new Pinemarten cafe also brought about an expansion of the catering team, with around 5 extra full time members of staff joining us.

Since its opening, the Pinemarten has served many large events including the UCI MTB World Cup. The new cafe has made a phenomenal difference to the catering effort at the World Cup and other larger events held at Nevis Range, allowing us to feed more hungry bikers than ever before!

In fact, in the last five years the Pinemarten’s customers have enjoyed:
• Over 17,000 bacon rolls
• 71,363 pieces of cake
• 22,018 hot chocolates

Other events held in the new cafe over the last 5 years include numerous weddings, corporate dinners, children’s birthday parties and many more. The venue proves popular with its light and airy feel and large windows looking up at the mountain and finish area of the MTB World Cup downhill track.

Not to mention, the amazing food! The Pinemarten cafe keeps our customers (and us) well fed with the huge selection of cakes, speciality coffees, and delicious healthy meals, cooked to order using high quality and locally sourced ingredients.

Here’s to the next 5 years, we’re off to grab a coffee and a slice of birthday cake!
