Located just 7 miles from Fort William, the Nevis Range Mountain Gondola is one of the top things to do in the Scottish Highlands for families, walkers, dog owners, climbers, mountain bikers and visitors looking for panoramic mountain views.

The Nevis Range Mountain Gondola is the only mountain gondola of its kind in Britain, travelling up the north face of Aonach Mòr, the eighth-highest mountain in the UK. The gondola reaches the top station at 650 metres, offering visitors a scenic 15-minute journey with incredible views across Fort William, Lochaber and the surrounding Highland landscape.

Originally built to transport skiers and snowboarders to the slopes, the Mountain Gondola is now a popular year-round visitor attraction and a unique way to access the mountain. Visitors can enjoy the scenic ride, take in the fresh Highland air, explore nearby viewpoint walks, visit the Snowgoose Café, or simply relax and enjoy the views.

In winter, the gondola provides access to Nevis Range’s Snowsports area when conditions allow, including skiing and snowboarding. Throughout the year, it is also used by climbers, hill walkers, mountain bikers and paragliders heading out to explore Aonach Mòr and the surrounding mountain landscape.

The Journey

The Gondola transports visitors from 100m to 650m up the mountain and takes approximately 15 minutes each way. The Doppelmayr Gondola system comprises of 80 six seat closed cabins running on a continuous 4.6km steel cable weighing 40 tonnes. This is supported between 18 pylons, 2 masts, and 2 drive station structures each anchored in 200 tonnes of concrete and spans 2.3km. There are specific ambulance, freight and service Gondolas. The rated carrying capacity is 1700 persons per hour at any one time.

Views & Scenic Walks

The Gondola journey allows you to take in breathtaking panoramic views of the Scottish Highlands whatever the season, including the Great Glen, Ben Nevis and surrounding areas. On a clear day this spectacular view can extend as far as the Inner Hebrides. There are two relatively easy walks accessible from the Top Gondola Station to either, Sgurr Finnisg-aig (approx 45min return walk) or Meall Beag (1hr return walk), enabling all our visitors young and old alike to enjoy and appreciate the magnificence and ruggedness of the Scottish Highlands.

Nevis Range is committed to ensuring that all of our visitors can access the mountain to enjoy a great day out and, create lifelong memories. From parking your car on arrival, getting in the Gondola, toilets and accessing the Café/Restaurant, our facilities are available to a wide spectrum of visitors. Ample car parking is available onsite and is charged at £5 per day.

Dogs

We welcome your four-legged friends! Owners can take their dogs in the Gondola and then enjoy scenic walks to one of the two mountain viewpoint trails. We ask that they are kept on a lead at all times. Your dogs are allowed in the Snowgoose Restaurant & Bar or the Pinemarten Cafe Bar but must be kept on a lead at all times.
